Sandbanks engagement shoot

Sandbanks engagement shoot

Finally got round to blogging Nikki and Mike’s Sandbanks engagement shoot. It was really great to come back to Sandbanks, I used to live just up the road, sometimes you forget how good you had it! It was was one of those evenings where everything

Late one night back in June I had a text from my friend Phil Spalding asking if I was available to shoot some music stuff for his friends. Absolutely!! turned out his friends were Right said Fred who he played bass for back in the 90’s.

Phil is one of the best bass players around, having played bass with Robbie Williams  (check out 9.00 mins) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqyNvzSVsd8, as well as Kylie Minogue, Seal, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Tina Turner, Talk Talk etc etc. In the 90’s he moved to LA where he celebrated the rock and roll lifestyle to the max….

Whilst using dirty needles he contracted hepatitis C. On his return to the UK he attended a rehab clinic in Swindon where he was cured of his addiction and found a new life. He remains passionate about his music but also for the people that helped him and has gone on to help others, He now runs a support group for sufferers in Swindon (http://www.liver4life.org.uk) and with world hepatitis day on July 28th wanted to promote the cause further. It is thought to effect nearly 1 in 12 people throughout the world and not just through drug use but tattoo needles, blood transfusions (Anita Roddick, founder of Body Shop died of hep c ) and also injecting anabolic steroids.

He asked his former bandmates Richard and Fred Fairbrass if they would attend one of his support group meetings and discuss their former lifestyles as well as making a documentary including a live blood test to see if they were infected and also wanted to document the day with some still photography. Phil was honest and open about his past experiences whilst Richard and Fred also came across as well informed, articulate and brutally honest about their past lives. It was a truly humbling experience listening to everyones story that evening.

Dom Brown & Phil Spalding Blue to Brown

Dom Brown & Phil Spalding Blue to Brown

In January I was lucky enough to shoot Dom Brown’s band Blue to Brown at the Swindon Arts Centre. As a kid growing up just outside Birmingham in the 80’s Duran Duran were the local boys made good and I was a big fan. The

Rendcomb College wedding

Rendcomb College wedding

It’s always nice to shoot a local wedding and Jo and Tim’s Rendcomb College wedding was no exception. I shot their engagement shoot the same time last year http://nickporterphotography.com/2013/12/jo-tims-e-shoot-at-rendcomb-college/ and the wedding was my last of 2014, held at the amazing Rendcomb college in the Cotswolds.

2014 a retrospective

2014 a retrospective

2014, a year that began and ended at Rendcomb in the Cotswolds with some massive highs and some massive lows in between.

I’ve been really fortunate to be able to travel a fair amount this year including Hong Kong, Borneo, Qatar, Ibiza and Italy where I got to shoot my first destination wedding in Frascati. Every wedding this year has been a total joy, it’s such a privilege to share such an important day and I’m indebted to all the couples that have let me in to their lives over the past twelve months.

We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary this year, looking at the pictures it feels like yesterday but I’m reminded that 3 of our friends are no longer with us including my cousin Mark who we lost this year, he was my best man and best friend, I guess it shows how important photography is and how it allows us to hold on to the good times.

2015 ‘s already looking good with lots of wedding bookings coming in and lots more travel lined up. Thanks also to everyone who’s liked my facebook page in the last year, over 1000 in the last 6 months, It means a lot and I’m really grateful.

Happy new year!
